Scientists aren't sure, but they THINK: lizards, small mammals, possibly birds; it may have fed on the dead bodies of other animals too

Forest, fossil found in Wyoming

We don't have a complete skeleton of ornithoestes, just a badly crushed skull found in Medicine Bow, Wyoming
